Look of the Week...

With spring quickly approaching I wanted to highlight this combination of vintage-modern. March doesn't always mean "fun in the sun" for Chicagoan's like myself. So, jeans and jacket are still a must. Among other things, this look allows for some wardrobe recycling--always a plus! It seems leather jackets, skinny jeans and statement necklaces aren't going anywhere. So, make the most of it!

Key things to remember:

1. Keep the look fresh and colorful. Make sure to complement blacks, greys, whites and browns with brighter selections to offset a monotone look.

2. The idea is to merge vintage and modern into one cohesive look. The balance of vintage to modern is up to you but make sure you're not neglecting one or the other.

HAVE FUN!

Best & Worst of Oscar Night 2010

The Best

Sandra Bullock was by far my top choice for best dressed. I couldn't stop swooning over her the entire night. I thought she looked absolutely stunning. Her hair color was radiant and the detailing on the dress was unique and delicate. All I have to say to those who compared her dress to that of a figure skater's is: bring on the ice--figure skating just got its biggest endorsment!

Rachel McAdams also impressed me a great deal. The water colored look and criss-cross over the chest flattered her.

Meryl Streep looked fabulous for her (and her age) in the crisp white long sleeved number. I just felt like she finally nailed it and looked more beautiful than I'd seen her in years.

Maggie Gyllenhaal wasn't one of my original choices for best dressed. In fact, on initial glance I hated the dress. But, when I took a deeper look, I noticed how the colors brightened her features--specifically her eyes. And, the floral print is not as extreme as I thought. For taking a risk and pulling it off I gave her my 4th spot.

The Worst

Mariah Carey is such a hot mess to me. I mean, I know, that is just her but seriously--tone it down sister! All that cleavage, all that leg and all that bling is WAY too much! There is a simple rule: less is more, and this diva takes rule breaking to another level. On top of that her hair is flat and over processed.

Kate Winslet is beautiful and classy no matter what she wears. However, this two piece number just bores me and brings me back to Homecoming junior year of high school. I don't particularly like anything about the dress or her hair...it's just blah.

Charlize Theron was another disappointment. The colors didn't do anything special and the rosettes over her breasts just pulled the attention from her best feature: her face. It was a risk that, in my opinion, did not pay off.

Sarah Jessica Parker is known for her trendsetting, so I give her props for trying something out of the box. Still, I couldn't help but think she look emaciated...like she was wearing a designer burlap sack. The colors were pretty and at moments I liked it. I just don't think that her frame could carry the dress (I wonder if it would look better on a Keira Knightly or Nicole Kidman--someone more statuesque.) And, her hair was styled in that outrageous bun that we've already seen on her. All in all, it wasn't working for me.

There you have it. I'll admit, aside from Sandra, Rachel, Meryl and Mariah, I think one could argue either way.
